David and Regina suggest Merlin is their best bet to help Emma, and that they will have to take the risk of leaving Mr. Gold at Emmas mercy for now. After Belle goes to save Mr. Gold on her own, the heroes gather in the vault, with the prepared spell brew. Upon Arthurs arrival, he asks for privacy to use the crimson crown, explaining that Merlin only ever spoke to him when no other people were around. Hook and everyone else leave to wait outside the vault, and after a time, Arthur exits to inform them the spell failed. As proof of Arthurs sabotage, David later finds the charred, but still magically intact crimson crown in the burnt out cauldron fire. With Henry being the only other person who was chosen by Merlin, he is called in to enact the spell. Rather than direct communication with the sorcerer, the group view a prerecorded hologram message from Merlin, who tells them to look for Nimue, the person they need for defeating the Dark One. Arthur disarms Hook and prepares to stab him, but Emma protects him by knocking Arthur unconscious. Hook tries to get the truth from Emma about what happened in Camelot, to which she states that everything is for his sake. With Arthur imprisoned, Hook demands answers from him, thinking he knows what Emma means, but David stops the interrogation after its clear that Arthur has nothing to offer. Gold, recognizing that Emma is regretful about something she did, advises him to seek answers from her. When she doesnt show up after Hook calls for her, he jumps from a roof, forcing Emma to save him. Hook apologizes for what he said last time, and after reaffirming that he still loves her no matter what shes done, he persuades her into being honest with him by telling her some of the awful things hes done during his pirating days. Emma reveals the house she currently has was actually his idea for their future together, and that everything shes doing is to keep that future intact. Hook wants to hear the rest of her story, but then she draws him into a kiss and admits she cant tell him the truth now because hell try to stop her from accomplishing her mission. Dizzy from the kiss, he passes out and wakes up in the basement with Zelena, where Emma declares her plan to put the darkness in Zelena and kill her to ensure the Dark One line is extinguished. Using his enchanted hook, he rips off Zelenas bracelet, restoring her magic so she can free him. Hook finds hidden squid ink and paralyzes Emma with it as he once again demands the truth from her.
